The National Energy Regulator of South Africa approved a tariff increase of over 12 percent for the power utility late last year.

The increase comes on the back of the 18.65 percent tariff hike implemented last year.

Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says the tariff adjustment was applied in October.

“On 14 December 2023, NERSA determined the tariff increase for 2024/25, applicable to Eskom’s direct customer tariffs from 01 April 2024, and to Eskom’s tariffs for local authorities (municipalities) from 01 July 2024.”

The tariff increase for direct customers is 12.74 percent.

Municipal customers will be charged 12.72 percent more.

The power producer says the average increase applied to the key industrial and urban tariffs will be 13.29% due to the increase in the affordability subsidy charge.
