Electricity minister says there’s reduction in load shedding hours
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says load shedding has been reduced by 600 hours over the past year.

He believes the country's heading in the right direction in being energy secure.
“During the period of December and the year that was, the country experienced load shedding hours of about 1800,” Ramokgopa said.
“In December 2022, 2023, and 2024, we have had about 1200 hours of load shedding.”
But Ramokgopa admits there shouldn't be load shedding to begin with.

"Load shedding in its totality is unacceptable. We have come to a situation where it has become a daily occurrence. So gradually, we want to reduce that intensity of load shedding, and so you get into a situation where we should not get accustomed to stage 6, like I said, we should not get accustomed to any load shedding."
