Elderly man drowns in Umzimkhulu River

A lifeless body of a man who drowned when his Kayak capsized
in the Umzimkhulu River in Port Shepstone on the South Coast has been found.

NSRI's Craig Lambinon says the man, who was in his 70's, was well-known in the area.
"A man was separated from the kayak and he was being swept out to sea through the river mouth. An NSRI Rescue vehicle and SAPS, search and rescue and MediVac services were activated.

"On arrival to the scene, the shoreline search commenced for the man, aged 70. The kayak was located washed up on the shoreline and during the search, the body was found in the Surfline and was recovered onto the craft.
"Sadly, he was declared deceased by paramedics."
