Efficient energy use tops agenda at Africa Energy Indaba

The Africa Energy Indaba kicks off in Johannesburg today. The two-day event is being hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre.
One of the main areas of focus will be off the grid and mini grid technologies in helping electrify rural communities. Another area of interest will be energy efficiency - which is made even relevant with the recent bout of load shedding.
The SA National Energy Development Institute believes the country's electricity crisis has to ability to open up a number of opportunities - especially when it comes to business development, job creation and improved energy efficiency.
General manager of Energy Efficiency at the SA National Energy Development Institute - Barry Bredenkamp feels previous cases of rolling blackouts saw consumers becoming more energy efficient in both behaviour and the adoption of alternative energy sources.

He believes corporates and small businesses need to take responsibility to affect change in sustainable energy.
Bredenkamp says gas, solar and wind must all play a role in the country's future energy plans.
