EFF says beefed-up police and army patrols ‘no deterrent’
The EFF says it wants to send a strong message to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC government with its shutdown today.
The red berets want Ramaphosa to resign and for load shedding to end.
In Pretoria, EFF members have gathered at Church Square.

“Our streets are empty because our people are engaged in both the stay-away and massive protests which are going to accelerate as the day progresses and Ramaphosa is going to eventually resign," said the party's Sinawo Tambo.
Tambo says they will not be deterred by the beefed-up police and army patrols.

“We are not going to be intimidated and it shows that the deployment of the army and excessive law enforcement on the streets was not to defend any anarchy or chaos. There were no businesses operating at 12am.”
