Education the key to curbing crime in schools
The Safer South Africa Foundation says more needs to be done to reduce school violence and crime.
The NPO, which educates learners about the criminal justice system, awarded certificates to 80 pupils on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Monday.
Provincial coordinator, Pumza Nyawuza says they'd completed the Foundation's Criminal Justice Programme, which encourages children to turn away from a life of crime - and drug and alcohol abuse.

"Most learners have found it very interesting and they committed themselves that they will participate in ensuring that they minimize the crime that we usually find in school like, bullying, coming to school with weapons and participating in drug abuse.
"They say, they are working it out so that will not that place in the premises of the school."
The Foundation works with the police, the SA Human Rights Commission and National Prosecuting Authority, to encourage active citizenship in schools and communities.
