Education Dep assures matric exam prep on track

The Department of Basic Education says it's done one everything possible to make sure matric learners are ready for their final exams.
It says it's on track with preparations.
The department and quality assurance body, Umalusi and the have been briefing Parliament on the readiness for the largest matric exams ever.
More than one million candidates will sit for them in a little over a week.

The department’s head of assessments, Rufus Poliah says there were concerns about a possibly large number of dropouts this year.
"In 2019 we have 616754 full-time learners writing the examination and these are our full-time learners who are at school and in 2020 we have 61621 candidates."
"That is a difference of 733 candidates, which therefore mean that there has not been a significant drop-out in terms of grade 12 learners writing this exam," he said.
