Education committee joins praise for KZN matriculants
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Education Portfolio Committee in the KZN legislature has
added its voice to those praising the province's matrics for their 83% pass
rate.
Chairperson Sifiso Sonjica says they are also impressed by the improvement in results coming from rural schools.
"We are excited that the Bachelor pass has improved, so it means now we are talking about quality or results and not just the results and we are happy."
At the same time, he says it's disappointing that the start of the school year in Nkandla has been delayed, due to protestors preventing some schools from opening this week.
Sonjica says it's unfortunate that the community would rather have their children out of school in protest over something that has nothing to do with teaching and learning.

The Nkandla CBD has been shut down following days of violent public protests over the state roads.
"We want to appeal that for whatever justified reason there might have to be unhappiness - it should never affect the future of the learners. You destroying their future because you want the roads today," says Sonjica.
