Bolt Go was introduced last week and provides fares said to be 20% cheaper than the normal fares on the e-hailing service.

Bolt says it's to reduce the barriers of entry into the industry.

Protesting drivers are complaining that they're already earning less per trip than they use to.

The South African e-hailing Associations's Sthembiso Mgwaba says they feel this new service is tantamount to slavery.

"As an association, we are saying away with Bolt Go. We are against this feature because we won't make any profit.

"They haven't changed their commission structure. We are still paying the same commission for the other category that we were using before."

Bolt driver Sanjay Singh says he's a breadwinner and is basically working to refuel petrol with no profit.

"We will have to start at 5am and finish at 8pm to try and get the same money that we could have done within a shorter time period."
