DUT shuts campuses in wake of violent protests

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has shut three of its Durban campuses following a violent protest on Tuesday.
The university says members from a political student organisation forced their way through one of the gates at Steve Biko Campus.
It says the protesters made their to one of the building's parking basements and set alight four vehicles, believed to belong to staff.
The university's protection services helped put out the fire.

Management says following the incident - the Steve Biko, Ritson and ML Sultan campuses have been temporarily shut until further notice.
DUT says online registration and all online activities will continue - with staff advised to work remotely.
It's again stressed there's no physical registration on campus and is not accepting walk-ins.
A case of malicious damage to property has been opened with police.
