DUT management, labour unions reach deal on salary hike

Labour unions and management at the Durban University of Technology have struck a deal following almost two months of unrest at the institu.

Milton Estrice, who's speaking on behalf of the labour unions, says they have struck a deal with management - securing a 7% increase for staff.
They are yet to sign the agreement which will put an end to the eight-week-long strike that delayed the start of lectures at some campuses.
The Higher Education Department stepped in last month in attempts to help resolve the salary dispute.

Students will be given revised academic calendars, which will see their first semester run until the end of June.
Unions had been asking for a 10% increase with management offering 4%.
