DUT expert: Tests show Durban tap water safe to drink

Scientists from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) have found Durban's tap water is safe to drink.

Director of the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology, Professor Faizal Bux, says they have been doing random tests across the city.
He says they have found no E. Coli in the potable water.

"We tested 17 areas, the south, north and the western areas in the eThekwini metro. There has been substantial concern amongst the public on the quality [of water.]
"We tested the water last week and we found that the water quality subscribes to the South African National Standards microbiologically."
He says they've also been testing the beach waters and have discovered the problematic beaches are alongside the Umgeni River.
