Durban 'tremor' was 'like an explosion'

Was there an earth tremor in Durban? Residents have been sharing their experiences, after parts of the city felt what seems to have been a tremor early Thursday morning.

Carol Wessels from Westville says she was in bed when she heard a rumbling sound.
"I just heard it sound like a rumble like thunder and then all of a sudden there was this pop and the windows rattled and I even said 'What was that?' and then it sounded like an explosion and then windows rattled a bit more. Then I thought maybe that was a tremor.
"Then I went onto Facebook and I typed ‘Tremor Durban’ and then I saw a gentleman who had put up ‘Did anybody feel that tremor?’ Then I realised it wasn't my imagination, it had been a tremor."

There've been reports of windows shaking and walls and floors vibrating in areas including Inanda, New Germany, Waterfall, Buffelsdraai and Phoenix, where Suveshan was fast asleep.
"About 3am, while I was sleeping, I just felt like the whole house just shook for about six to seven seconds.
"It was big enough to wake me up. I was really shocked when it happened because of the ordinary for us in South Africa to experience something like that."
Meanwhile, monitoring service AllQuakes says it received reports of an earthquake in or near Durban, but that these need to be confirmed seismologists.
