Durban traffic management plan implemented ahead of Soweto Derby

Durban Metro Police say operations are underway to ensure a safe and successful Soweto Derby at the Moses Mabhida Stadium later.
This after a riot broke out inside the stadium during a previous knock-out match involving Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year.

Metro spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says law enforcement agencies will be monitoring the situation.

Sewpersad says they will also have extra officers inside the stadium to avoid any chaos, as Chiefs go head-to-head with arch rivals Orlando Pirates.
Tickets are sold out, but eThekwini has set-up free public viewing areas.
Sewpersad says people not going to the stadium or outdoor screenings should try and avoid the busy areas.

Kickoff is at 3pm.
Meanwhile, 18 security guards were hurt during the Nedbank Cup semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars in April.
Angry supporters invaded the pitch when Chiefs lost the match 2-nil.

An armoured police Nyala had to be driven in to the stadium to stop the riot. Several fires were lit in the stands and television camera equipment was damaged.
Nine soccer hooligans have since pleaded guilty to charges of public violence in connection with the unrest.
