Durban teen escapes kidnapping ordeal

Three men are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of kidnapping, extortion and assault.

They were arrested in Waterloo in Verulam after they allegedly kidnapped a businessman's son in Point, at the Beach front on Wednesday.
They then assaulted the 18-year-old and demanded cash for his release.

KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says one of the suspects is a former employee.
"A man was at his father's place business premises when he was kidnapped and assaulted by the suspects, and they were also demanding money from the father.
"He managed to escape while he was at the corner of Smith and Gardener Street and that's when he ran to the police station."
