Durban taxi rank shooting case underway
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The bail hearing for the eleven men thought to be behind the Brook Street taxi rank shooting two weeks ago has begun in the Durban Magistrate's Court.
Today is the second day of the hearing.
Three people were killed in last month’s shooting in the CBD.
The session got under in a packed court ten with all the accused lined up before magistrate Phumlani Bhengu.
Attorney, Jimmy Howse began by reading a statement from accused number nine, Mandla Nkosi.
In the statement, Nkosi attempted to distance himself from the other accused, saying he is innocent and was only working on the morning of the shooting.
Although he had his licensed firearm with him, he claims he did not fire it. Nkosi says he's concerned that the investigating officer said he had no right to be at the rank.
He believes he did as his employer’s taxi operates under the Berea Taxi Association. In his statement, Nkosi said he's worried that such cases are often unfactual and riddled with unfounded accusations.
Court was earlier adjourned for tea.
