Durban taxi operations back to normal

Taxi council, Santaco is assuring commuters they'll be able to get home or to their late shifts this afternoon.
Many commuters in Durban were left frustrated this morning when they couldn't get taxis to ferry them to work and school due to a protest by taxi operators.
Their grievance is with car manufacturer, Toyota South Africa, which Santaco says has priced their Quantam minibuses too high.
A memorandum was handed over at the company's Prospecton plant earlier.

Santaco's Boy Zondi says their members were then instructed to return to work immediately so taxi operations could go back to normal.
"All taxis are now going back to their routes - they will be working as normal. Commuters must rest assured that taxi operators have gone back and are now working," he said.
The protest also created havoc on the roads as traffic on some routes became congested after minibuses were used to block roads.
Emergency services were earlier unable to attend to crash scenes in and around the city.
