Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
A municipal employee in Durban has been killed after the storm struck the beachfront area.

eThekwini's head of Parks and Recreation, Thembinkosi Ngcobo says the woman had been trying to seek refuge from the weather when a wall collapsed on her.
"A member of staff tried to take shelter behind a wall on the Beachfront and it fell on her. As a result, unfortunately she passed away. Now looking into this accident, we've decided that nobody's going to be allowed onto the beach," he said.
Ngcobo also says the city's beaches are closed until further notice.

The municipality is urging residents and workers to stay indoors until the severe weather subsides.
Mayoral spokesperson, Mthunzi Gumede says the disaster management call centre has been inundated with calls.
"Residents are cautioned against driving or walking anywhere for the duration of the storm. The current wind is measured at 70km/h and it's extremely dangerous. Residents are requested to only call the disaster centre for emergencies," he says.
