While handing down sentence, Judge Masipa Mokgere said Mnayndu showed no signs of remorse.

The court believes that had he not been arrested, Mnyandu would have continued targeting and attacking women. Mokgere said Mnyandu - labelled in court as the smiling rapist - was a menace to society, adding that his conduct was deliberate, planned and calculated.

The judge says the victims suffered psychological trauma, were suicidal, had deep emotional scars and were unsure whether they would lead normal lives again.

Mnyandu was sentenced to 23 years for kidnapping, 30 years for the rape of two girls over the age of 16 and 10 years for robbery.

He was given five life sentences for the attacks on the minors he raped more than once.

Mnyandu smiled while being taken down to the holding cells after hearing his fate.
