Parkes was sentenced in the Durban Magistrate's Court today.

In handing down sentence, Magistrate Karen Moopenar said she found it very disturbing that, as per the social worker's report, Parkes had a preference for child pornography.

She said society needed to be protected from him.

Moopenar emphasised the fact that the child Parkes had raped was only 6-years-old at the time and that she was now traumatised, could not trust anyone and sometimes refused to go to school.
