Durban rock-throwing: Authorities working at long-term solution
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Long-term plans are in the pipeline to deal with devastating incidents of rock-throwing in and around the city.
Durban's Deputy Mayor, Fawzia Peer says we need a permanent solution.
"We're having meetings with SANRAL because there's a court order which doesn't allow them to pursue any decision on steel barriers. We've cut the vegetation. We do have cameras in certain areas. The hotspots are now fully lit," Peer said.
A group was tasked last month with keeping a close watch over bridges identified as hot spots.
Peer says the support from the police and community watch groups has been phenomenal.
Meanwhile - 27-year-old Durban woman, Sashni Daniel, suffered head injuries after a rock allegedly thrown by protestors crashed through her windscreen on the R102 late last month.
Daniel is currently recovering in hospital.
