Durban resident narrowly misses burning tyres in N2 protest
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A KZN woman has described the moment she and her husband dodged burning tyres during protest action near Durban's Clare Road bridge.
"It happened so quickly. They threw the burning tyres onto the N2 which hit the truck on the left of us and almost made it veer into us. So we were dodging trucks and cars between the second and the fast lane," Shan Thompson said.
The La Lucia resident says they feared for their lives while travelling north on the N2 last night.
She says they'd just returned from Botswana when they found themselves in the middle of the unruly protest.
It was very scary - I'm not going to lie. My husband was very quick at swerving - we managed to escape it," Thompson said.

Meanwhile, Metro Police spokesperson Parbhoo Sewpersadh says the highway was closed and motorists had to be diverted during the protest. It's not clear if anyone was arrested.
