Durban ready for its biggest social weekend

All eyes will be on Durban this weekend, for the 122nd edition of the Vodacom Durban July.

Local tourism officials believe the city will be given a R150-million cash injection.

The city says a number of temporary jobs have also been created by the event.

Officials expect hotels and other accommodation venues, shopping malls and the beaches to be a hive of activity over the weekend.

More than 55-thousand people are expected to make their way to the Greyville Racecourse tomorrow.

Durban Tourism's Philip Sithole says they would also like to see emerging tourism routes in the city also benefiting.

Sithole says more than 2,500 temporary jobs will be created in Durban as a result of the Vodacom Durban July.

Durban Metro Police are urging all those attending the Vodacom Durban July and its associated events to ensure they remain on the right side of the law.

Officers say roadblocks and other security operations will be conducted over the weekend to ensure all those in the city are safe.

Organiser, Gold Circle expects 55,000 people to head to the Greyville Racecourse tomorrow.
