Spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersad is warning all revellers to ensure they remain on the right side of the law.

"Some 55,000 people are expected to head to the Vodacom Durban July this weekend. There will be roadblocks and other operations cracking down on illegal after parties," he said.

Sewpersad is urging people to behave themselves and have fun responsibly.

He says offices will be out in full force manning roadblocks and conducting other operations to ensure the city is safe this weekend.

Locals and visitors to the city are being urged to comply with all laws relating to alcohol consumption, driving and behaviour in public.

The Vodacom Durban July takes place this Saturday.

Durban Tourism expects the event to pump R150-million into the local economy, making the Vodacom Durban July Africa's greatest horse race.

Mayor Zandile Gumede says eThekwini has pulled out all the stops to ensure this year's event surpasses all expectations.

"In terms of readiness, it is all systems go and we are confident that we will deliver a sterling show.  We are also optimistic about the economic prospects of staging what has become one of Africa’s major events. This year we are anticipating that all our hotels and hospitality will be packed and this is expected to make a contribution of no less than R75 million in direct spend alone,” said Gumede.

According to Gold Circle's Ken Tweddell, visitors will spend a projected R75-million on race day.

“Betting adds another R100 million – on and at off course totes around the country,” he said.
