Durban power cuts adding to matric stress levels
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Matric pupils say ongoing power cuts in Durban
are pushing up heir stress levels.
The Grade 12s are busy writing their final NSC papers.
But load shedding, along with unannounced power outages, have added another layer of pressure on pupils preparing for their exams.
Areas like Reservoir Hills, Pinetown and New Germany were plunged into darkness on Sunday due to a high-voltage fault at three substations in Kloof and Clermont.
The blackouts caused panic among some matric pupils, including those at the Dr A D Lazarus Secondary School in Reservoir Hills.
"It becomes very difficult to study at night because there is only so much a candle can do for you and working with textbooks it's hard for me to flip through these pages," one pupil told Newswatch.

This pupil says she tried to access most of the past papers online.
"But with the power outages, it's not the issue of the lights, but it's more challenging going online."
eThekwini's technical teams have since fixed the issue.
