Durban policeman shot dead in Isipingo

KwaZulu-Natal police are mourning the loss of one of their own.

An off-duty police officer was shot and killed in Isipingo, south of Durban last night.

The 54-year-old Warrant Officer from Umlazi had allegedly been with a companion in the Malukazi area when they were accosted by six armed men.

They then pulled him out of his vehicle and shot him in front of his partner.

The suspects took his firearm and fled the scene.

The police's Jay Naicker says the Provincial Organised Crime Unit is investigating the case.

"His companion was also shot and wounded in the attack. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown," he said.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist investigators.
