Durban pensioner smacked with R2.2m electricity bill

An elderly Durban woman is breathing a sigh of relief following news that she won't have to fork out a R2.2 million rand for electricity.

It's after eThekwini Municipality vowed to correct the massive bill sent to the pensioner.
The city claims the lady submitted an incorrect reading to its e-services department.
A routine meter reading has been conducted which managed to capture the correct usage.

Ish Praladh, who's with the eThekwini Ratepayers and Residents Association, says the old lady lives alone and was shocked when she received the bill.
"She says to me se what they did to me now, thy sent me a R2.2 million electricity bill. We punched the digits in instead of 2,200 its 2,2 million."
