The police's Vishnu Naidoo says the group marched to the SAPS provincial office in the city and demanded they see the police commissioner over unfair promotions.

"When the provincial commissioner got to the members - he discovered that some of them have been armed which, in terms of the gatherings act, is a contravention of the law. Some of them were put under restraint which was followed by discussions.

Naidoo says management is seriously considering of charging the group.

"Members of the South African Police Service are not allowed to protest or demonstrate - especially when they are on duty. Some of the charges that they are likely to face would be charges in terms of the Gatherings Act, it would be the contravention of the Road Traffic Act and facing charges in terms of the bylaws as well."
