Police unveil new community policing strategy
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The South African Police Serve has unveiled a new community policing strategy. The SAPS says the strategy aims to get all communities involved in the fight against crime.

The SAPS says the strategy aims to get all communities involved in the fight against crime and operates under the theme, "Towards an integrated and sustainable policing for a safe and secure South Africa".
It seeks to 'operationalise' the concept of community policing with a view to stimulate an active citizenry and citizen participation, in the fight against crime.
“This is a national launch for South Africa, this strategy will make history by changing the way we do policing. Crime will be reduced automatically when the Communities in Blue close the space that criminals operate within,” Sitole said at the launch.
"The Community Policing Strategy has been developed to empower the community to take back their streets. There cannot be the police without the Blue Commandants (Community in Blue patrollers), who are the foot soldiers led by the community policing forums. We are building an army of responsible patriots who will be defending the people of our country”, added Mkhongi.
