State to secure bed in mental facility for murder-accused mom
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Durban woman accused of the murder of her three-year-old daughter will remain behind bars while the State tries to secure a bed in a facility for her.
Teneil Ursula Kok (33) is accused of beating the girl with a wooden rolling pin before strangling the child to death.
Kok was arrested in June after police were called to their flat on Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street.
In her first appearance, the State told the court that they wanted to send Kok for a mental health assessment to the district surgeon before the case goes any further.

She also told the court that she has been admitted to mental health facilities before and was currently an outpatient.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says Kok briefly appeared in court on Wednesday.
"The matter was remanded to the 10th of August 2022 to allow the State to book a bed for her to undergo physiological evaluation. She remains in custody."
