Durban man pleads guilty to killing girlfriend, child

An elderly man has admitted murdering his girlfriend and her young daughter.

Thembinkosi Ngcobo pleaded guilty in the Durban High Court on Friday. 


Thirty-four-year old Ntombifuthi Blose and two-year-old daughter, Swelihle where attacked with a bushknife at his home in Phoenix in October last year.


In Ngcobo's plea statement read out in court, he says that he began dating Blose in 2016 and a year later, she gave birth to Swelihle, whom he believed was his child.


He says in September last year, Blose decided to move in with him.

The 62-year-old says he learned Blose had been living with her ex-boyfriend, who was apparently refusing to give her some of her belongings when she wanted to move out.


He says he advised her to get police to accompany her to her former partner's home.


Ngcobo further claims Blose's ex-lover phoned him and spoke about her.


The elderly man told the court he later got into an argument with Blose, during which she told him the child wasn't his and began packing their clothes to leave.


Ngcobo says he became angry.

He says he found himself assaulting Blose with a bushknife and hitting Swelihle, who was clinging on to her mother.


Sentencing proceedings in the case are expected to begin next week Wednesday.
