Durban man gets life sentence for rape, murder

A Durban man's been slapped with a life sentence for the rape and murder of a woman in Tongaat.
It's understood Bhekani Mkhize and his co-accused - Thembelani Maqaqa met Nomusa Ntuli at a Christmas Party in Belvedere three years ago.
Police say, when Ntuli rejected his advances - he set out to kidnap, rob and rape her.

Ntuli was taken from her home the following day and attacked in a nearby bush.
The pair were arrested shortly after - and Maqaqa turned state witness.
NPA spokesperson, Natasha Kara says the Durban High Court also sentenced Mkhize to 20 years for robbery.
"The director of public prosecutions in KZN, Adcovcate Elaine Zungu welcomes the conviction and sentence.
"This matter is indicative of the state's commitment to successfully prosecuting gender-based violence matter in spite of the COVID -19 pandemic and it's challenges," says Kara.
