Durban man confesses to killing partner

KwaZulu-Natal police say a man has confessed to killing his girlfriend, 38, in the south of Durban.
The 50-year-old suspect was arrested this week at the Coedmore informal settlement.
It's understood he was assaulted by the community on Tuesday after the woman's body was found.
Local councillor Gavin Hegter says he was called to the scene to help calm the crowd down after it blocked the police from leaving.
"The community were very agitated, emotional and the situation got a bit heated. They didn't want the SAPS member just to leave and leave the body there because they didn't trust them that they would come back."
Hegter says he was told the woman disappeared in December.
The suspect had allegedly told neighbours she had gone to visit her family.
"It was only on Tuesday evening when he started burning all her clothes and her ID documents the community members came and asked him why he is doing that, then the daughter actually broke down and told him.
"It is alleged that he had been threatening the daughter that if she said anything she would end up the same way as her mother."
He appeared in the Durban Magistrate Court on Thursday.
