Durban to London flights to benefit ordinary citizens: MEC
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The launch of direct flights between Durban and London will have a trickle-down effect on the lives of ordinary people in KZN.
That's according to the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs - Sihle Zikalala.
The MEC veered off script when addressing reporters in Umhlanga yesterday.
He said people must not look at the new British Airways route as something that only benefits the elite who can afford to travel.
"It sustains the existing job opportunities and adds value to trade and creates potential for tourism to grow. It should be that we are launching something that only benefits the elites in society but imapcts the economic growth of the province and country," Zikalala said.

The new British Airways route will initially operate three times a week.
Zikalala believes the flights will help improve tourism and business ties between Durban, the UK and the rest of Europe.
