Durban gun violence driven by 'lack of resources, intelligence'
A political civil rights group believes the spike in gun attacks in Durban is a direct result of the lack of crime intelligence and resources for local police.
Action Society has been reacting to the recent incidents in Wentworth and Austerville, saying that drug peddlers have turned communities into warzones, with residents having to dodge bullets during drive-by shootings.
Mariannhill's also reeling from a number of brutal killings, which appear to be drug-related.

The group's centre coordinator Tshepi Mmekwa says government funding for law enforcement agencies and safety go hand-in-hand.
"We are concerned about the lack of government action to address the rise in violent crime and make arrests, which is allowing criminals to run rampant in the province.
"The provincial budget allocated to the Department of Community Safety and Liaison decreased from R249 million in the 2020/21 financial year to R236 million in the 2022/23 financial year."
