Durban flood victims living in cramped condition - IFP

The Inkatha Freedom Party in KZN has raised concerns over the conditions at the new accommodation some of the flood victims in Durban have been relocated to.
The party conducted an oversight visit to the Transitional Emergency Accommodation facilities in Umlazi and Point on Monday.

The provincial government had committed to shutting down all mass care centres and moving some 1 600 people by last Christmas.
The IFP's spokesperson for Human Settlements Thokozile Gumede says they are now living in cramped condition both at Umlazi and Point.
"When they came to Point Road, they were promised that they will be put in such a way that every family will live in it's own room, but that is not the case.
"Three halls are being are being accommodated in these areas, you find that there are three families in one room. So they are taken away from their livelihoods and knowing nobody."

"Families are broken here, some people are not staying with their husbands, children are staying with relatives. So what is going on? What is the point of relocating people and shoving them in these buildings just for the sake of saying they have removed them from the hall but you are making their lives more miserable?"
