Durban businessman's alleged kidnapper remanded in custody

The case of a 32-year-old man, who is alleged to have kidnapped a Durban businessman for ransom, has been postponed.
It's understood that over the weekend, the suspect allegedly robbed and kidnapped the Reservoir Hills businessman and demanded R1 million from the family.

While holding his victim captive, the suspect withdrew cash from his credit card.
The victim was able to escape and made his way to the nearest police station, where police followed up on information that led to the man's arrest.

"[He] appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates' Court today [Tuesday] on charges of kidnapping, attempted extortion, robbery with aggravating circumstances and Contravention of the Immigration Act," says KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara.
"The matter was remanded to 15 March 2022 for bail investigations."
