Durban business chamber blasts city for deteriorating state
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Durban Chamber of Commerce says the CBD is in desperate need of a facelift if it wants to attract investors.
CEO Palesa Phili says security must also be beefed up.
She was speaking at a KwaZulu-Natal business event in Umhlanga on Thursday morning.
She says local government must step in to deal with the crime and grime.
"We all know that in our CBD, it is a crime hub for criminals, illegal immigrants have taken over and it has really become unattractive for business. We would like to request a stronger partnership and a stronger focus.
"We as the business community can be able to reinvest in the CBD if crime is sorted out and it is clean. We have seen how dirty our city is and we have seen how dirty our roads are."

She has called the city's state an embarrassment to the business community who have to host tourism events.
"We cannot be driving on the freeway or on the roads where there is litter everywhere. Nothing is maintained in terms of the grass.
"When you drive on the M4, you see how dirty the M4 is and we would like to ensure that our province comes back to the previous glorious state it had of ensuring that there is proper cleanliness."
