Duduzile Zuma unrest messages ‘still under investigation’ - NPA in KZN
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The NPA in KZN says of eleven July unrest instigator cases in the province, three remain on the court roll.
“The one matter is for Mdumiseni Zuma, the other matter is for Bongikosi Khanyile, and then we have the last matter which involved the WhatsApp groups,” says KZN's Director for Public Prosecutions Elaine Zungu
“There are 61 accused appearing in the WhatsApp group matter. The 61 accused belonged to the three WhatsApp groups which were active during the July unrest period in KwaZuLu-Natal.
“There is still one case that is still under investigation and there are four cases where we decided not to prosecute due to insufficient evidence.”
Zungu says in another case, the accused was acquitted.

At a briefing in Durban on Friday, she was asked if former president Jacob Zuma's daughter Duduzile Zuma was among those whose alleged connection to the riots was being investigated.
During the unrest, several posts, described by one witness at the Human Rights Commission hearings as celebratory, were made on what was believed to be Dudu's twitter account.
”That matter is still under investigation. These matters are not easy to to deal with, and we don’t deal with them overnight. There has to be sufficient evidence linking the accused to the commission of the offence.
“We also do need to ensure there are prospects of success when we take the matter to court.”
