Over R800 million worth of drugs seized across the country have just been destroyed.

"We have just witnessed the destruction of five tonnes of drugs. These drugs that we confiscated during day-to-day operations and other operations in the whole country. Bust mostly some of them, come from port of entries," National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said on Thursday.
He spoke to reporters shortly after the destruction at an undisclosed location.
He said drugs included heroine, cocaine and mandrax.
The destruction comes just days after two massive drug busts in eThekwini.

Last week, over R70 million worth of cocaine was found hidden in paint containers seized from the Port of Durban.
This week, cocaine, said to be worth R80 million, was confiscated at the Dube Tradeport.
It had been concealed among boxes of meat.
Masemola said we need to turn the tide of the drug.
"We are aware that South Africa is also used as an in-transit country, which in most cases some of the drugs are not destined for here but they via through our country, so we need to make sure that whatever comes in we arrest, confiscate and make sure that we destroy."
