‘A very scary moment’: Truck driver recounts moment keys taken in Durban blockade
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A truck driver left stranded during Friday morning's road blockade in Durban says he's still in shock.
The man, who preferred not to be named, says he was threatened by a group of men who kicked him out of his vehicle, which they then used to block traffic on the N3.
He's told Newswatch about the moment his keys were stolen.

"In the morning, I think eight to 12 guys came to us and blocked the road. They suggested we should give them the keys. Otherwise, if we don't give them something will happen to us.
“We gave them the keys to the truck, and then they took the keys away. It was a very scary moment because we didn’t know what would happen if we refused to give them the keys as they came forcefully. So you should give them the keys. Otherwise, you lose your life."
The driver says his truck, like several other heavy-duty vehicles in Durban, was used to barricade the freeway near Pavilion.
Police are still trying to establish who was behind the disruption and the reasons for it.

Wynand Laatz, who's with Mobiclaw, says he was stuck at Spaghetti Junction.
He saw taxi drivers being targeted.
"It is a group of vehicles that was driving around, stopping these taxis and removing their keys and driving off. These taxis that are here weren't aware of anything. They were just forcefully stopped and pulled out of their vehicles."
