Dozens rescued after being trapped in Western Cape storm

Dozens of farm workers and animals trapped in the Western Cape's Overberg region due to the storms have been rescued.

The National Sea Rescue Institute teams was called out to Riviersonderend on Thursday, where staff had been stuck on one side of the river since Wednesday.
A pregnant woman and a man who needed medical help were the first to be ferried across to paramedics.

The NSRI's Craig Lambinon said: "Rescue swimmers assisted to safely evacuate 45 farm workers, 22 adult females, 19 adult males, four children and a dog, bring all to safety in an operation that lasted most of Thursday afternoon.
"No one was injured and the farmers have been commended for their high spirits and cooperation during the operation. Some wild life including a snake were also assisted to escape the flooded swollen river."
