Discussions to continue in Umhlanga taxi rank dispute

The eThekwini Municipality says discussions over a facility at Umhlanga's Oceans Mall to accommodate taxis will continue this coming week.

On Friday, members of the South African National Taxi Council and the Oceans Mall Developer were taken through a site visit of a proposed facility.


The site visit was facilitated by the eThekwini Transport Authority.

It follows last month's protest blockade where taxi drivers blocked road access around the mall after the area where they were parking was blocked off.


The municipality's spokesperson, Gugu Sisilana says part of the next phase, is to undertake a survey to ascertain the quantity of parking spaces. 


" The visit was to ascertain if the proposed site was appropriate to accommodate 120 holding bays and 90 ranking bays to cater for the taxi operations within the Umhlanga precinct.
