eThekwini urges taxi operators to use ‘proper’ channels to air grievances
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini officials have
called on taxi operators to use the proper channels to air their grievances.
This after an hours-long blockade by associations near Umhlanga's Oceans Mall brought the bustling business precinct to a standstill.
The protest was prompted by concrete barricades that taxi operators were met with on Tuesday when they tried to access an area near the mall where they'd been operating.
The barricades were removed in the afternoon.

The city's Gugu Sisilana says they've since identified a new holding area or a temporary rank for minibus taxis and buses in an unused parking lot at the complex.
“The leadership of the city has called on the taxi industry to take their concerns through the proper channels so they can be addressed amicably as we continue to engage with them on issues of common issues."
Meanwhile, Oceans Umhlanga Development CEO Brian Mpono says he's disappointed by the absence of City officials at yesterday's protest.
"There's not one person from eThekwini Municipality who is here on the ground trying to come to an amicable solution.
"It is only us, the developer, Greater North Santaco, and the metro police which is very disappointing and upsetting. I, on behalf of Oceans Umhlanga, try to resolve this entire gridlock on behalf of businesses and residents of Umhlanga Rocks."
