Disciplinary action taken against I/O in Verulam rape case
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN police have confirmed the investigating officer who was assigned to the Verulam child rape case is facing disciplinary action.
There's been anger over the way the case was handled after the ten-year-old girl told a neighbour she was being abused.
Provincial police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says an internal probe into the officer's conduct is underway.
Naicker says allegations the child was raped repeatedly, held captive and possibly forced into prostitution are also being investigated.
"We will investigate all of those allegations. We have even roped in the services of a hyper-crime expert from within the SAPS in the province. He will be assisting the current investigating officer in terms of the investigation. So there might be other charges added," he said.
