The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal says disaster management teams are on standby as more inclement weather is expected to hit the province.
It says mop-up operations are also underway after severe thundershowers and hail hit parts of the Midlands on Wednesday.
Cogta spokesperson Senzo Mzila says the hail damaged buildings and vehicles while heavy rains coupled with strong winds also caused localised flooding with uprooted trees.
Mzila says some of the affected areas include Pietermaritzburg, Ndwendwe, Maphumulo and Mandeni, where disaster management teams have been deployed.
"MEC Hlomuka has appealed to motorists and holidaymakers to exercise extreme caution and patients on the roads as the intermittent weather conditions could result in a deterioration driving conditions.
"Disaster management teams were deployed by MEC Hlomuka to conduct assessments in the Midlands area of Pietermaritzburg and in the municipality Mandeni, Ndwendwe and Maphumulo.
"Teams are continuing with assessment. So far, there have been no reports of any fatality in all of these incidents."
