Dirty water forces closure of two KwaDukuza beaches
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The KwaDukuza Municipality says it's closed two beaches on the north coast.
Dirty water is apparently flowing into the Zinkwazi and Blythedale beaches from the Mvoti and Thukela Rivers.
The municipality says after consultation with the KZN Sharks Board it was agreed that the dirty water compromised the shark safety gear at these beaches.
Marine Safety's Steve Honneyset says swimming is therefore been prohibited for today.
"The lagoon at Zinkwazi Beach is running quite strong they can' get across to get their boat to the water to launch.
"They will make a plan tomorrow - move their boat across to launch at Salt Rock and then they will then proceed up and service those nets. Today we will keep it closed. I have informed the lifeguard supervisor in that area.
