Deputy national police commissioner, Bonang Mgwenya has been granted R20 000 bail following her arrest on Monday morning for alleged fraud and money laundering.
She was taken into custody during a pre-dawn raid at her home.
She appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court in Gauteng this afternoon.
She is one of over a dozen accused in connection with a multi-million rand tender for emergency warning equipment for the SAPS in 2017.
Nine of the suspects are police officers.

It's claimed Mgwenya and others colluded to make sure a certain service provider won the contract - which was apparently inflated.
National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo said: "The National Commissioner has further stated that in all criminal cases involving police men and women, the law must take its course and justice must prevail.
"In the meantime, following the arrest of Lt. General Mgwenya, the National Commissioner has put interventions in place to ensure that service delivery within the human resource environment is not compromised."
