Dept investigates Isipingo school assault allegations

A probe has been launched into the principal of a primary school in Isipingo after claims he touched school girls inappropriately during an outing.

There are allegations that while on the Grade 7 excursion to the Midlands on Friday, some educators including the principal started drinking and became intoxicated.
On the bus back to Durban, the school head is said to have then made advances towards some of the Grade 7 girls while another two teachers who were also apparently drunk - slept.

Some parents have opened cases of indecent assault and negligence. KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they are taking the matter very seriously.
"We have received a complaint from a parent. We have begun our investigation - which is an ongoing process," he said.

This mother says her daughter is still in shock after what happened.
"As a parent, I don't think the principal and the teachers that were on the excursions should be there. I've never seen my daughter in that condition before. She had a locked jaw, she was crying and very scared," she said.
