Parents unhappy with PMB school officials in assault matter
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
Some parents at a Pietermaritzburg primary school where a counsellor is facing charges of rape and sexual abuse have criticised the school and School Governing Body for the way the matter was handled.
This follows a meeting last week where the school and the SGB briefed parents on the situation.
The counsellor, who is accused of abusing boys as young as four, appeared in court last week and was denied bail.
Some angry parents feel the importance of the matter was downplayed by the school as they only found out about it through the press.
The parents are now calling for the removal of certain teachers, who they say, came to support the accused man in court.
The SGB says they take full responsibility for the matter.
"In order for us to manage the matter, we have requested those educators that were named at that meeting that were accused of allegedly being at court to stay away from the school up until such a time when we discuss this with parents and come up with solutions to the matter," he said.
